數月前為香港一個視光學機構系列培訓中作了一個關於中醫眼科講座，以下為其中一位視光師之回應。
One of them was Chinese Medicine and Eye diseases; it provided a new insight of eye diseases using the traditional method. It claimed to be capable of treating certain diseases which was untreatable using western perspective. The alternative treatment method would bring hope to patients having diseases like Recurrent corneal erosion, glaucoma and so on.
The topic I was most interested in is the Chinese medicine of ophthalmology. Before the talk, I did not know what it was; just thinking that it is for enhancing our immune system, not the treatment. However, after the talk, I realize how amazing it is. We have learnt much knowledge relating to eyes from western research and journal, but we did not know the treatment and management from Chinese medicine aspect. Besides, we did not even imagine how magic the Chinese medicine can, such as “treating”glaucoma case in this sharing. Maybe this is just the special case, but at least we can try to solve some problems in other aspect, thinking outside the box, or combine both aspects. The next time when we face some difficulties in our life, we should not give up easily, and try to find another way to solve problems. This change maybe can helps us to have a better result out of our expectation.
I found the topic Chinese Medicine Optometry presented by Mr. Wong was very interesting. It gave a whole new idea and prospect about managing some untreatable cases in traditional optometry such as retinitis pigmentosa and macular edema, which can give the patients have these diseases a new hope of gaining certain level of vision. However, it certainly needs more clinical experiments and trials to get more scientific results to prove it works on most of the patients, so the cooperation between optometrists is very important for the benefits of the patients.
